62ndAnnual Flower and Companion Dog Show
Inter-Schools Competitions:
The Art Competition has traditionally been between local primary schools in the immediate vicinity of Binfield Heath, with Shiplake C of E Primary School, Bishopswood Primary School and Sonning Common Primary School competing regularly. This year we are very pleased to welcome Chiltern College School as a new entrant to the expanding Art Competition.
We now have our own marquee with display space for every entrant to the competition. There are cash prizes and a rosette for the 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd and 4 th winners in each class in each school, with the School judged to be the overall winner holding the Inter-School Challenge Shield, and a cash prize for the School. The Show Committee wish all the entrants the best of success.
A short description has been supplied by each competing school.

Shiplake Church of England School
There has been a village primary school in Shiplake since 1847, but the current school was first opened in 1963. It has since grown considerably.

Shiplake Church of England Primary School has evolved a great deal over the past 160 years. Originally built through a trust deed for the children and poor of the parish on land donated by the Baskerville family, it continues to serve the local village community and enjoys close ties with the Church . Currently there are 192 pupils on roll, which is over our designated school capacity. There are 7 single year groups and there is no desire or room to expand further.
The school is extremely grateful for all the support it has enjoyed over recent years. With numbers rising rapidly, every bit of space has to be used efficiently and effectively. Two years ago the internal space was reorganised to this end. Internal walls were removed, a new corridor built and an external wall resited. The old kitchen became the much needed 7 th teaching area which allowed for single year groups. Rooms were redesignated use- wise and everyone agreed that the school functioned much more effectively.
Last summer, attention turned to the outside. With the help of parents, governors, staff and pupils it was transformed. A new entrance way was made from Memorial Avenue, new fencing and gates secured the parameters and a huge 'Friend Ship' was built in the playground to a pupils design. A quiet area for sitting, reflecting and reading was built and new flower beds, a farm area and barn and a shelter constructed. There was much to celebrate. The Ship was officially launched on 24th November 2006 by those most closely involved in the redesign of the outside space. With no caretaker, Groundforce days (where parents, governors, staff and pupils all work together) are an essential means of looking after our environment. With the PTFA arranging social events to assist financially, we are a very fortunate school. Indeed in January Ofsted deemed us 'a good school with many outstanding features' and the children's behaviour as 'exemplary'. It was a lovely start to the year!

Sonning Common Primary School is a values-led community school, which means that the life of the school is centred on making good relationships, on teamwork and caring for others. The staff are dedicated to providing an education for the whole person, giving pupils an exciting and interesting start to life-long learning.
The school has extensive grounds in which the children love to play, take part in a range of sports and learn about their environment. They grow their own vegetables organically.
They love participating in community projects and enjoy going to the Binfield Heath Flower Show to see their own art work and that from other schools in the area.
The children send best wishes for the show and hope that the sun will shine that weekend!
